Dr. Sathian, the Medical Director of the Center for Systems Imaging, is Professor of Neurology, Rehabilitation Medicine and Psychology at Emory University, and also Interim Director of the Rehabilitation R&D Center of Excellence at the Atlanta VAMC. He is a neurologist with special interest in neurorehabilitation. He obtained medical training from Christian Medical College, Vellore, India; a PhD in neuroscience from the University of Melbourne, Australia; and did his residency in neurology at the University of Chicago. His research, which is funded by the National Institutes of Health and the Veterans Administration, focuses on multisensory perception and cognitive rehabilitation and relies heavily on functional neuroimaging. He received the Albert Levy Award in 2001 for the best scientific publication by a faculty member at Emory.
