The Neuroimaging Informatics and Analysis Center is pleased to welcome Yuval Nir, Ph.D., to the 2012-13 NIL-NIAC Seminar Series. Dr. Nir received his MSc in Computer Science at Tel-Aviv University (Israel). He then obtained his Ph.D. in Neurobiology at the Weizmann Institute of Science (Israel). Dr. Nir is currently a postdoctoral fellow working with Professor Giulio Tononi in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His research is focused on understanding how sleep relates to cognition and perception. Their laboratories focus on two neurobiological problems – the mechanisms and functions of sleep, and the neural substrates of consciousness. Both problems have considerable medical implications, especially for psychiatric disorders such as depression and schizophrenia.
