DicomBrowser is an application for inspecting and modifying many DICOM files at a time. A single imaging session can produce hundreds of DICOM files; DicomBrowser allows users to view and edit a whole session—or even multiple sessions—at once. Users can write the original or modified files to disk, or send them across a network to a DICOM C-STORE service class provider, such as a PACS or DicomServer.

DicomServer is a DICOM C-STORE service class provider designed for use with XNAT. It receives images from a sender, such as a scanner or DicomBrowser, and writes the received data to disk. When a complete imaging session is received, DicomServer generates a summary in XML format. XNAT uses this XML summary to start entering session information into the database.
